Devotion Day 41, Through the Bible in 90 days

Next readings – Day 41 Psalm 46 – 69

Psalms 46 & 47 are a couple of my favorite Psalms.

In Psalms 46 here are some of the verses that stand out to me;

God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble. …

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells. …

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

In Psalms 47: Clap your hands, all you nations;
shout to God with cries of joy.

For the Lord Most High is awesome,
the great King over all the earth.

Psalm 51 is possibly a Psalm David wrote following his affair with Bathsheba, having Uriah killed in battle and Nathan/God confronting his sin.

In Psalm 62 verses 1 & 2 stand out to me.

Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

Psalm 65: When we were overwhelmed by sins,
you forgave our transgressions.

I really like Psalms 66 & 67 also.

Psalm 66 in the The Message opens with these words;

All together now—applause for God!
Sing songs to the tune of his glory,
set glory to the rhythms of his praise.
Say of God, “We’ve never seen anything like him!”

In Psalms 67: May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face shine on us—
so that your ways may be known on earth,
your salvation among all nations.

In Psalms 68 we hear these words of faith;

19 Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens.
20 Our God is a God who saves;
from the Sovereign Lord comes escape from death.

Amen and thanks be unto God.

The Psalms are songs/hymns of faith. A contemporary song that I really like is “Our God is An Awesome God.” In our readings from Psalms we often hear how the people of old, knew that God was an awesome God. Here is a link it on Youtube.

Friends, our God is an awesome God. Through our reading of God’s word, may we discover more and more about God and God’s love for us and all His creation. It is God who saves us from ourselves and guides us into new life. May we trust in God and believe on Him.

O God, every time I read through the book of Psalms, different ones speak to me, for different things are going on in my life. But one thing seems always to be true, in Psalms I sense the faith the people of old had in you and hear the call once again to trust and believe in you and your ways. Amen.

Next Readings – Day 42; Psalms 70 – 89 (suggested reading is Psalms 69:22 – 89:13 but I don’t like breaking in the middle of a Psalm.)
