Devotion Day 32 – through the Bible in 90 days

Day 32 – 2nd Chronicles 7:11 – 23:15 – In 2nd Chronicles 7:14 we hear;

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

In chapter 12:5-7 we hear how the people had abandoned God and did not follow God’s law, thus God would abandon them and let Shishak from Egypt overrun the land. But they humbled themselves saying; “The Lord is just.” What he is doing is right. Because they humbled themselves, God did not allow them to be destroyed. But they did become subject to Shishak for a while.

In chapter 15 we again hear of God’s people humbling themselves before God, by entering into a covenant to seek the Lord with all their heart and soul. (15:12).

God’s people are good about seeking the Lord when things aren’t going so well, when things are bad. We should be seeking the Lord and humbling ourselves before our God at all times, during good times and bad.

Today, may we humble ourselves before our God and turn unto him. For there is no better time than now for us to do just this; for God is God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth, our redeemer and savior, and the one who can sustain us and help us through all things.

As we’re read a couple of times in Chronicles; “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” Amen.

Have you noticed how Chronicles deals with the kings of Judah, hardly mentioning the kings of Israel. This may be because it was written after the exile of God’s people and God and the writers wanted to remind God’s people who returned to the land promised unto them, of the history of the kings and people of Judah. The people from whence they had come.

O Lord, I humble myself before thee. You are God, I am one of your beloved children. You are God, it is your ways that I should seek to follow, not my ways or the ways of the world around me. You are God, may I put my full trust in thee, and seek to repent of my ways and thoughts that draw me away from thee. May I seek to grow closer to thee this day and all the days of my life. Reveal to me thoughts and ways that lead me away from thee and help me turn from them and turn to thee. Amen.
