Bible in 90 days - Day 1 readings

Day 1 – Genesis 1 – 16

What stands out to me in our first day of reading is how it is God who acts. It is God who created all that is so that he could be in relationship with his creation. Then following the fall, sin entering the world, it is still God who acts in making covenants with his creation, with his people; first with Noah and then with Abram.

In Genesis 9 we hear;

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you 10 and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth.”

12 And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

I love rainbows for there is something magical about them. But more importantly, they remind me of the promise God made and God makes.

Then in Genesis 15 we hear;

He took him outside and said, “Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”

Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

I heard the other day that the nerve endings in our brains, out numbers the stars in the sky. This truly amazed me and causes me to think of how great is God’s love for us that he created us and gave us live and chose to offer us a covenant relationship with him.

Today, focus upon how it is God who created you and gives you life and how he has chosen to covenant with us to be our God and to call us into a covenantal relationship with him.

Enjoy your readings if you haven’t already done so. Here is an outline of the readings for today, for those who would like it.
