Daily Devotion Saturday, September 8th

Saturday, September 8th, 2012 – Psalm 125; Job 22:1-4, 22:21-23:7; Acts 13:26-43 and John 10:1-18

Job 22:1-4, 22:21-23:7 – 22Receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.

As I prepare to begin my adventure of reading God’s word in 90 days, these are good words to put upon my mind and heart. If you are choosing to continue with the daily readings as provided by the daily lectionary, these words are still good for you. Others may take on still other ways of reading God’s word. However we go about it, what is important is to hear God speaking to us through His word and to lay His word upon our heart.

If you’ll be participating with me in the reading of the Bible in 90 days here are a few words of encouragement.

Carve out a specific time each day to sit with God’s word, set aside an hour each day and spend this time reading God’s word. It may not be the same time each day, but make an appointment with yourself and God to be with God and God’s word to us.

Secondly, if you miss a day, don’t feel you have to make up that days’ reading all at once. Add a chapter or two to your reading schedule for the next few days until you catch up. Don’t skip a section for you would then miss a whole section of God’s word to  us.

Something I may be doing for myself is adding a chapter or two to the readings each day, knowing I’ll have a busy day here or there and thus be somewhat ahead of where I should be.

Begin your readings each day, by taking just a moment to sense yourself sitting before God who is going to share with you his word for the day. Get into God’s presence as you open yourself up to God’s word.

Take some notes. Jot down your questions. But don’t sense you have to do a lot of this. Our goal is to read the whole book, beginning to end, getting an overview of what God is saying to us from Genesis to Revelation.

Our first reading for Monday will be Genesis 1 – Genesis 16.

Enjoy reading God’s word, no matter how you choose to do it.

O Lord, may the meditations of our hearts, and the words of our mouth be acceptable to you, our Rock and our Redeemer. Amen.

Psalm 125 – 2   As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the LORD surrounds his people,
from this time on and forevermore.
